Volunteer Planting and Nest Box Building at MacKay Creek (near Capilano Mall)
March 25, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Come and join the Wild Coast Ecological Society team for a volunteer planting party at MacKay Creek! With our partners at Echo Ecological, we will be planting native vegetation along the north side of West 1st Street and MacKay Avenue on Saturday, March 25 from 10 am to 2 pm. Volunteers of all ages can drop in to help us plant along the creek and also build, decorate and install songbird and mason bee nesting boxes. Families are welcome to join us for a nature walk and scavenger hunt at 11 am to see the signs that beavers, deer and birds leave behind! Free coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided by Bean Around the World, Pemberton Avenue and goodies donated by Cobs Bread, Capilano Mall.
Environmental stewardship such as this makes a measurable difference for our local habitat. Through past restoration efforts by Echo Ecological along Lower MacKay Creek, there have been record numbers of spawning salmon, nesting songbirds and even a sighting of black-tail deer! We are excited to continue this success further up the creek with the help of our local community. All supplies will be provided, just dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty! Email email@example.com for more information or just stop by on the day.
